The Sims 4 July 2026 Update Is Here! Is it worth it?

If you’ve ever spent hours building your dream home only for your game to crash before you remembered to save… today’s update is for you.
Seriously.
The newest Sims 4 base game update is one of those quality-of-life patches that players have been asking for for years, and EA actually delivered some genuinely useful improvements this time around.
While this isn’t the biggest update we’ve ever received, it’s one that could make everyday gameplay a lot smoother, especially if you’re like me and somehow always forget to save until disaster strikes.
The Biggest Feature: AutoSave
I honestly never thought I’d see the day.
The Sims 4 finally has an AutoSave feature! I always had to have a mod for this.
Instead of relying completely on your memory, the game can now automatically create save points while you play. You can even customize when it saves, whether that’s after traveling between lots, after a certain amount of gameplay, or during important milestones.
Save Reminders
Not ready to trust AutoSave completely?
EA also added customizable Save Reminders.
You’ll get little notifications reminding you to manually save your game before it’s too late. It’s such a simple feature, but honestly… we probably all needed it.
This would have helped me years ago when I lost an entire home build because I didn’t remember to save my game during the building process.
Better Performance With Memory Boost
Another huge improvement is Memory Boost.
If your game starts slowing down after playing for a while, or if you have giant households, heavily decorated lots, or years-old save files, this update should help.
EA says players can expect:
- Less lag
- Better frame rates
- Faster loading
- Fewer memory-related crashes
- More stable long-term save files
For anyone with a heavily modded game, I’ll definitely be interested to see how much of a difference this makes.
Smaller But Welcome Fixes
This patch also includes several bug fixes, including:
- Roof pieces displaying correctly again in Build Mode.
- A new option to disable Nordhaven Hobby Meetup notifications. (These are annoying)
- Improvements to save stability for players with lots of Residential Rentals.
Nothing flashy, but definitely appreciated.
Looking Back: The Last Six Months of Sims 4 Updates
Although today’s update is getting most of the attention, EA has actually been working on improving the game throughout the year.
Here’s a quick recap.
Smarter Notifications
One of the biggest community complaints was the constant stream of phone calls and notifications. Recent updates reduced repetitive calls, added controls for festival notifications, and made social interactions feel more relevant instead of your Sim getting interrupted every five minutes.
More Bug Fixes Than Ever
Across several updates, EA has tackled dozens of player-reported issues involving:
- Create-a-Sim
- Build/Buy Mode
- Routing
- UI glitches
- Gallery improvements
- Occult gameplay
- Loading issues
- General performance
Many of these fixes came directly from community reports through EA Forums and Discord.
Gallery Improvements
Finding creations has become easier thanks to improvements to Gallery search, making it faster to discover builds, Sims, and community creations.
EA Seems To Be Listening
One thing I’ve noticed lately is that EA appears to be putting a lot more focus on quality-of-life updates instead of only releasing new packs. For years, players have asked for better stability, fewer bugs, smoother gameplay, and less frustration. We’re finally starting to see some of those requests become reality.
Is every problem solved? Definitely not. But these updates feel like steps in the right direction.
My Thoughts
Personally, AutoSave is the star of this update.
I can’t even count how many times I’ve lost hours of gameplay because I forgot to hit Save. If AutoSave works as advertised, it could end up being one of the most useful features The Sims 4 has ever added. I’m also happy to see EA continuing to invest in performance instead of only focusing on paid content. A smoother game benefits everyone, whether you own every expansion pack or you’re playing the free base game. I’m excited to test everything out over the next few days, and I’ll definitely update this post if I run into any interesting bugs or if AutoSave ends up saving me from myself.
My only concern is how these updates are impacting the modding community. Are they taking away from these creators or simply collaborating? I do see some small collabs out there with items in the build/buy for accessories and clothing, which is great. But mods are seriously the bread and butter of The Sims 4. They make the game realistic, and honestly I believe that is what keeps the community alive. Only time will tell on that. Until then, I will still support the mod and cc creators out there!
So… what do you think about today’s update? Is AutoSave something you’ve been waiting for, or are there other features you’re still hoping EA adds next?
