Starting Off Strong!

Okay, so #1 on my “new me” checklist was to get my health checked and start making changes. I followed through and went to the doctor. Honestly, I have a laundry list of issues I wanted to address with my doctor, but I decided to start with the biggest one for now. My main concern is getting my PCOS under control. I feel like it is really the biggest factor in all of my other issues.

PCOS has caused so many problems for me since I was a teen, more than I can even count, but here are a few that have caused the most issues for me.

  • Heavy Menstrual cycles
  • Severe cramping
  • Hormonal Acne
  • Unwanted hair growth
  • Weight gain
  • Hair/scalp issues
  • Cysts in my ovaries/uterus
  • Mood changes
  • Mental health struggles

The first step was to get blood work done. I got some blood work done, and the results came back within a couple of days. All of my results looked great except that my Vitamin D was still a little low, A1C was a tiny bit higher than it should be, and my cholesterol was terrible. Everything else was perfect. Which I was actually surprised by. My blood pressure was perfect, but my weight is way too high.

Now that I had the results, I went to my next appointment, and he explained all of the results and how we were going to fix them. I was given a low dose of Metformin to hopefully help with the PCOS symptoms and a once-a-week Vitamin D. He also suggested taking a non-flushing Niacin supplement to lower my bad cholesterol.

Thankfully, my new doctor is extremely understanding and has a lot of knowledge on this topic. He really made me feel good about everything. My next appointment is in a couple of months, so hopefully, I have made some good progress by then.
