Day 3 – Deep Breathing & Sitting in Silence

Today’s focus was quiet both in my breath and my mind. I wanted to try deep breathing, but I was a little fishy about it. It seems so simple; therefore, I kind of assumed it wouldn’t be so helpful. When I really sat down and thought about it, I realized I don’t even breathe correctly. Now, I know that sounds bad and a little dramatic, but I’m being so for real right now. I noticed that I kind of hold my breath, or I don’t take deep breaths like a normal person should. I can assure you it’s from a trauma response. The feeling that you have to hold your breath out of fear or to listen to your surroundings. That’s another story for another day.

I went online and watched a few videos to learn how to breathe deeply properly. I sat in a comfortable position, closed my eyes, and began slow, intentional breathing. I let my inhale expand my belly, and my exhale soften my whole body. I sat in silence for a while after, just noticing how my body felt. I was very relaxed. Needless to say, I was proud of myself because I felt like I did it right, and now it is something I must do daily. It’s amazing how something so simple can be so powerful.

Benefits of Deep Breathing & Silence

  • Activates the parasympathetic nervous system – signals the body to relax and recover.
  • Lowers heart rate and blood pressure – supporting overall cardiovascular health.
  • Calms anxiety – slows racing thoughts and reduces mental overload.
  • Improves mental clarity – silence gives the mind a reset.
  • Encourages emotional release – deep breaths can unlock stored tension.

Let’s see what Day 4 brings to me!
