Why You Must Forgive!
Unforgiveness is a silent killer. Most people don’t even realize that they suffer from it. They brush off the issue and suppress the entire situation, leaving their bodies to deal with it. Your body remembers everything. Yes, everything! No matter how hard you try to forget or suppress, your body still remembers. How can you fix that? What is the solution?
The solution is to pray, dissect the situation, and realize it is doing you no good to hold on to it. Not forgiving someone is hurting you, not them. You are suffering in so many ways while they aren’t even thinking about it.
How do you suffer? Well, many people go through a trauma situation. You will think about it often. You will stir up dislike and hate for someone. You may even dream about or think about it so much that it impacts your daily life. There are times when people don’t think about it at all, but they still are affected by it. Their bodies deteriorate. Health issues arise and even diseases that eventually can lead to death. Cancer and fibromyalgia are serious diseases that arise from unforgiveness and or trauma. There is a laundry list of many more illnesses that can arise from this.
You must take your time and uncover what it is that you haven’t forgiven or can’t. Why can’t I forgive this person? Why is it hurting me so much?
In some situations, you may be the person that you can’t forgive. You may have done something to hurt someone or have done something that can’t be fixed. Someone may not forgive you for that reason. If this is the case, there is a lot of work to do. Guilt and shame are so hard to overcome. But, one thing you must remember is that you can not change the past. No matter how much you want to, or think about how you could have done better, you just CAN’T. Do not beat yourself up continuously. All things happen for a reason, and life is not always in your control. Surround yourself with people who love you. There are people who are dealing with the same issues who are ready to help. They all want you to overcome. So do I!
You must remember that God is there and he forgives you. He knows everything about you and the situation. You went through it for a reason, now let him help you overcome. Pray and ask for the solution. Give the Holy Spirit a chance to work in you. If you need it, seek counsel from a trusted professional. Be vulnerable and let it all go at your own pace.
Pray Psalms 139:23-24. Ask God to search your heart for any unforgiveness or hidden sin. He will show you and guide you. Also, take a look at Exodus 34:6-7. It details the attributes of God’s mercy. His mercies are new every day. Take the time to know them and understand them. It so so helpful to know them and speak them over your life.
Hopefully, this post has helped someone. The journey to forgiveness is a long one, but it is so worth it. Give yourself time and let it go. I’ve been there and it is hard. It is really a daily struggle. But, I have found ways to overcome. I have let the Lord do the hard part. It is what he is the there for. I am so grateful for that.
